HLB
Welcome to Lazy B
Livestock LLC., Prague,
Oklahoma. This farm was
acquired by my parents in
1952, a diversified family
farm. They ran a grade A
dairy for 20 years, then
beef and chickens.
Registered Katahdin Sheep
In 1968, Lavonne & I took over the farm and raised
registered Hampshire hogs. From 1990-2002 we ran
between 200 - 450 western white face ewes. In 2002
we sold all the western ewes and started
investigating hair sheep, and after 2 years decided
on Katahdins. In July 2004, we started a
registered Katahdin flock, no
comparison to the western sheep.
Our farm now raises registered & commercial
Katahdins & commercial beef cattle. Really, this
farm turns forage into meat on our 200 acres. We
have over 100 registered Katahdin Ewes & 50
commercial Ewes. We started raising show hair
wethers in 2014.
We raise Katahdins just like other
livestock. That is why we use any
and all technology available to our
industry: genetics, forage, grain, wormiers, scales &
records. We manage our operation by rotational
grazing and checking eyelids (Famacha). We feed
some grain. I want to know if they are capable of
growing with their skeleton staying correct, with
good bone and muscle development, and not
getting fat. After 4 or 5 months of age, ewe lambs
are grazed with ½ pounds of grain because we lamb
them as yearlings (babies raising babies). KHSI
Open Flock Book enables breeders to upgrade their
commercial flock to pure-bloods by using registered
Rams. Our goal is pounds lamb/ewe/year.

We lamb outside, lambs are
tagged, weighed, recorded,
navels are doctored with
iodine, and ewes udders
checked. Lambs are
vaccinated twice before
weaning, for over eating and
tetanus. And that is our health
program, besides worming
and feeding as needed. We
use livestock guard dogs for
predator control, and at times
have dogs for sale.
We raise a bigger Katahdin. I
want ewes that can
produce 140# lambs
in 6 months. On
average, a ewe can produce a
market lamb at maximum 70%
of her weight. Our motto is
push the lambs to market.
They are more efficient at a
younger age.
For more information on our
sheep give us a call or come by.
We would enjoy talking sheep.
Visitors always welcome.
